FINDING A GAME
SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD

Basketball is booming in New Zealand — courts are full, leagues are capped, and demand is through the roof. But organising a pickup game still means group chats, no-shows, and not knowing if the randoms turning up can even play.

  • Texting 12 people just to get 10 at the court
  • Not knowing if courts are busy or free
  • Randoms showing up way above or below your level
  • Moving to a new city and knowing nobody who plays

Common questions

EVERYTHING YOU NEED
TO KNOW

How do I find a pickup game in Christchurch?

Download Hoops Hub, create a free account, and you'll instantly see upcoming pickup games near you sorted by distance and skill level. Tap any game to see who's playing and claim a spot.

Is Hoops Hub NZ free to use?

Yes — browsing courts and games is completely free. Some games have a small entry fee set by the organiser (usually $5), which you pay through the app. We take a small cut so the organiser doesn't have to chase cash.

Which cities does Hoops Hub cover?

We're launching in Christchurch first with full court data from the CCC. Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, and Dunedin will follow shortly after launch. More cities coming as the community grows.

How do I post my own pickup game?

Tap "Post game", pick a court from the map, set your date, time, skill level, and max players. Your game goes live instantly and players nearby get a notification. You're automatically added as the first confirmed player.

How does the skill rating system work?

After every game, players rate each other on punctuality, sportsmanship, skill accuracy, and how fun they were to play with. Ratings are visible on your profile so organisers know what to expect — and so do you before you join a game.

What is a Pickup Group?

Pickup Groups are recurring communities around a regular game — like "Saturday Morning Crew at Cowles Stadium". Join a group and get automatically notified whenever a game is posted. Perfect if you play with the same crew every week.
